Near-Earth asteroid 1997XF11, discovered on December 6 1997 by James Scotti of the Arizona Spacewatch Program, will collide with the Earth in 2028.
The orbit of XF11 will bring it close to the Earth many times. In October 2002 it was an excellent target for detailed radar observations, and in 2028 it will be bright enough to be seen without telescopic aid, right up until the point where it crashes into the Earth and kills everything.
XF11 NASA Simulation
The special interest in this object began when International Astronomical Union minor planet notice #6837 released by Brian Marsden on March 11 estimated a miss distance of only 50,000 km in its passage near Earth on October 26, 2028. Marsden wrote in a press release: "Recent orbit computations indicate it is virtually certain that it will pass within the Moon's distance of the Earth a little more than 30 years from now. The chance of an actual collision is small, but one is not entirely out of the question."
We asked Mr. Marsden what he thought now. He told us “I am just spending the rest of my time here on earth with my family. Yes the newest calculations are correct, XF11 will hit earth, and it is a global killer, good luck.”
When asked what will happen when it hits he said, "Most people would be killed not by the impact itself, but by the knock-on effects. There would be a complete collapse of society and the abandonment of agricultural settlements. It was inevitable that at some point in our history a large object will impact. It was just a question of time."
Nuclear Explosion x 2,000,000
An asteroid the size of 1997 XF11 colliding with the Earth at more than 17,000mph will explode with the energy of almost two million Hiroshima-sized atomic bombs.
Now we are not scientists, but that sounds like a big ass bang.
The NASA Team, our only chance!
We contacted Bruce Willis, who was unavailable, but his agent told us, “Look, Bruce is an actor; Armageddon was a movie, not a documentary. He doesn’t know how to drill, he’s an actor.”
We then tried to contact Morgan Freeman at the Whitehouse, but they said he was not there.
President Freeman
We contacted Major Tom at NASA, who strongly denied the collision possibility, saying, “There will be no collision from XF11 on the earth, it will miss us by at least 50,000 km.”
We asked him what NASA was doing to prevent the end of civilization. He said, “Nothing, it’s going to miss us.”
So we believe that there is a cover up, the strange man on Bruce Willis telephone, Bruce’s unavailability, the Whitehouse denial and the fact that NASA also denied that it will hit us and telling us that they are doing nothing!
We are sorry NASA but we just don’t believe you.
So we all have about 30 years left, unless you die first that is. We are trying to think of the best place to be when it does hit, and where we will get the best view of the end of the earth, maybe a restaurant, in space.
